Plumage    Plumage is from around the neck of the turkey. Turkey plumage range from 2" to 5". The feathers are fluffy about two-thirds of the length. Flats    This feather from the back of the turkey is called turkey backs or turkey flats. Lengths are 3" to 8".  This feather is fairly straight and has a slight curve to the right or left and fluffy about three-quarters the length of the feather. The tips are smooth and flat and about one-quarter the length of the feather.

Wing Rounds    The hen rounds average 10" to 12" in length and 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" in width. Tom rounds average 12" to 14 in length and 1 3/4" to 2 1/2" in width. The more mature the bird the larger and nicer the feathers. The flue on the rounds grows approximately the same width on each side of the quill. Rounds are either right wing (shown) or left wing.   The amount of feathers in a pound will vary depending on the size of the quill. With very large birds, it may differ from the amount listed below. Each shipment is subject to change and we have no control on the size of the quills. (Picture on left is white round dyed green, picture on right is imitation eagle.)  Pounds can be split half left and half right, 1/2 pound is available all one wing only.

Wing Pointers    The pointers are also called spikes or flight feathers and the flue grows mostly on one side of the quill. On the right wing the flue will be wider on the right side of the quill. On the left wing the flue will be wider on the left side of the quill.-the wider side will range from 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" in width. The narrow side will be about 3/8" to 1/2" in width. The amount of feathers in a pound will vary depending on the size of the quill. With very large birds, it may differ greatly from the amount listed below. Each shipment is subject to change and we have no control on the size of the quills. (Picture on left is wild turkey or barred pointer,   picture on right is white pointer dyed black).           Pound can be split half left and half right, 1/2 pound is all one wing.

Ruffs    Under the tail we get turkey ruffs. This feather is also similar to turkey flats but is a little wider and fluffier and the tip is a little larger than the tip of the flat. This is the feather used to make turkey boas.
